I ordered new faucets for the bathroom from Signature Hardware today. We’re going to replace the current leaky sink faucet with the New York Widespread Lavatory Faucet and put their Exposed Pipe Shower & Tub Faucet with Sunflower Showerhead in the bathtub.

Bathroom Plaster
Today we took the plaster off the walls in the bathroom. They were beyond repair. We decided to put new wainscoting in. We don’t want to spend too much on the bathroom as we think we might want to re-do the bathroom down the road. As it is now we have bare CFL bulbs where there should be sconces, cracked plaster on the ceiling and walls, leaky faucets, cracked toilet and sink, and bare lathe and plaster on the bottom. I swear, you feel like you’re in the house from Fight Club in there.

In the picture above you can see the hole in the wall from the old electric space heater by the sink and another hole by the toilet where we think there use to be a gas heater.

We also installed a vent in the ceiling above the shower. There was a mildew smell in the bathroom when we moved in. It’s gotten better since we’ve removed the wallpaper and plaster. The new vent should help keep the moisture out (fingers crossed.)
No Phone Home
Today the phone lines stopped working, in the middle of the work day. No one seemed to know why, but the Sinai Construction crew were hammering and cutting around the phone lines for hours. Of course, when I asked them to look into it they said it was the electricians (who’d been in the attic all day—where there are no phone lines) who broke a line. I explained the impossibility and they suddenly couldn’t speak English. Nice.

Dave Normington from ADD-TEL Wire Systems was able to get out, make sense of the insane wiring, get things working again, and even add a few more phone jacks. Thanks Dave!
