We have sconces!

It’s been a long time coming but… we have sconces! Yeah! No more horrible ’80s can lights! At some point in our bungalow’s history, someone had the bright idea (no pun intended) of ripping out all of the original lighting and putting huge recessed can lights in the ceiling. Even on a dimmer you always felt you were being interrogated when you were in the living room or den at night.

We’d been looking for something “right” for months. We wanted to go vintage but needed a matching set of four for the living room and another matching set of four for the den—it’s tough enough finding a set of two you like, this was impossible. Then, Rachel discovered Revival Lighting.

After several calls and emails with Dave at Revival Lighting (thank you, Dave!) we decided on The Peyton for the den and The Carlton for the living room. Installing them turned out to be more dificult than expected, but then, is that a surprise? Now we’re on the lookout for some nice lamps to compliment the sconces. It’s always something.

Which Wallpaper?

Now that the living room is pretty much done, we’ve started thinking about wallpaper. Rachel has been mildly obsessed with wallpaper recently and has been doing lots of research. Some of our favorites so far are: Schumacher, Cole & Son, Timorous Beasties and Trustworth. (Trustworth has some awesome reproductions, but they might be a bit too much for us—haven’t decided though.)

Yesterday we went by Walnut here in Los Angeles and looked at several samples. Leslie was nice enough to let us borrow some sample books to bring home and check out. So many to choose from! We’re actually considering wallpapering quite a few rooms: the living room, dining room, center hall and Rachel’s office. We’ll keep you posted. Anyone else have favorite wallpaper sources?
