Trees be gone!

It was a tough decision but it had to be done. We’re both tree lovers but we had two huge trees that really had to go. There was the sweetgum tree in the front yard that dropped hideous spiked fruit/seed balls all the time, was slowly knocking down the brick wall and was planted right next to our water main.

Then there was “the big ugly” in the back yard that made a big mess and little else.

Glad to have them gone! Now we can get on with our other plans, to be posted here soon!

PS: If you need any trees removed (in the Los Angeles area, of course) we highly recommend J & J Tree Service. We found them through the recommendation of a friend and they did an amazing job. They not only cut down both trees (without damaging anything) but also ground out the stumps and hauled everything away. (Thanks for working with us Hezy!)

Backyard Cement

Never underestimate the power of a fresh coat (or two) of paint. Rachel and I have hated the way the cement in our backyard looked ever since we first saw it. We immediately started dreaming of tearing it all out and replacing the area around the pool with xeriscaping and flagstones. Years later, we still couldn’t afford to do what we wanted. We took some friends advice and just painted it for now. Wow! What a difference. We even painted or horrible back fence while we were at it.
