Insulation Removal
The insulation, if you can call it that, in the attic was another problem. First, it was the loose stuff that was just blown in all over—not the rolled kind. Second, the previous owner never put screens over the gables at both ends of the attic. This meant that any rodent that could manage to get into the attic through the openings could make a nice nest in the insulation—and they did.
That wasn’t the worst of it though, the attic was also full of all the original knob-and-tube wiring and it was still being used! The previous owner, rather than upgrading, had allowed new electrical to be spliced in where ever and left the hazardous wiring exposed! Before we could remove the wiring, re-wire the house, or install any kind of A/C unit, the insulation would need to be removed.
We had San Gabriel Insulation come out and vacuum all the old insulation out. They had easy access since we currently have no chimneys, they just backed their truck into the driveway, ran a hose up into the attic and sucked away. Now with that gone we can start saving for the other twenty things.
